Fertility is a growing issue in the workplace

An estimated 186 million individuals live with infertility, globally. That translates to 1 in 6 couples in the UK - and this number may be higher if same sex couple and solo parents are included. The number using fertility treatments and services is also increasing dramatically. Millennials are now more informed than ever, and seek employers who would offer better fertility benefits.

Support is needed.

Sadly, 90% of employees undergoing treatment report feelings of depression and 85% say it had a negative impact on their work. In our experience, managers welcome awareness and education to understand how they can best support the colleagues within their teams. It’s clear managers need awareness and education to understand how they can support these colleagues within their teams.

Awareness and understanding are lacking

The complex, sensitive nature of fertility journeys can make fertility a subject that is overlooked and avoided at work.

The result can be a culture of silence, misunderstanding and exclusion where employees don’t know where they stand and don’t feel safe to disclose. There could even be legal risk if employees are treated unfavourably or unequally.

Benefits of Fertility Inclusion

A culture of fertility inclusion has a positive impact on recruitment and retention, wellbeing and productivity. More than this, it sends a wider message of inclusion to the parents and children of today’s diverse modern families. Overall it’s a strong commitment to DEI whilst supporting the family goals of your employees.

We believe HR Managers or DEI teams have a key role leading a critical workplace shift in how fertility treatments and family building is perceived and supported now, and in the future.

Fiona Skinner

Hi, my name is Fiona Skinner

I founded The Fertility Coaching Company with one goal, to improve fertility support in the workplace - this passion to change things came out of a 15-year fertility journey where I experienced almost all fertility treatments and our wonderful daughter was finally born out of a surrogacy arrangement in Georgia in 2018.

Trying to combine a fertility journey and a senior role at work was incredibly challenging and I realised that much more could be done to support employees on their journeys. It was this vision that founded The Fertility Coaching Company. We are already seeing the positive impact of our training courses and that makes us very proud. We are excited to see what can be achieved.

Bryony Clark

Hello, my name is Bryony Clark

I was on journey to become a fertility counsellor when Fiona and I spoke about our combined area of interest, fertility support. My own journey to having a child was challenging in its own way and I dealt first hand with the experience of pregnancy loss and trying to conceive. It has given me a great sense of achievement writing the course and interviewing such inspirational individuals about their unique fertility journeys. It has also given me a real sense that we were doing something positive and meaningful in representing diverse stories of fertility issues in the workplace. We hope others will find our course as inspirational.
